Cross-country skiing, tobogganing and popular ski races
The ski resort Saas-Grund offers many winter sports. Cross-country skiers have 32 km of routes in the entire ski area of Saas-Fee. The routes lead through the larch forests, over pastures and along the frozen river Sasser Vispa.
In addition to the experience of skiing in intact nature and in the purest air, the cross-country skiers on these routes can also enjoy the splendid Alpine panorama in all its fullness. Schlittenfans offers Saas-Grund the longest piste in the Saas Valley: 11 km between Kreuzboden (2400 m) and Saas-Grund (1559 m). Both during the day and in the evening, the ride takes about half an hour. With a total height difference of 841 m, the route overcomes gentle pistes and is thus suitable for all sled fans, children and adults. There is also a 200m snowtubing piste with a vertical drop of 60m.
Saas-Grund holds several popular races that are open to all. In March, the annual horn sled race takes place. Teams of 3 people (driver, brakeman, runners) compete against each other on this crazy but very amusing downhill. A true pleasure for everyone in a fun and laid-back atmosphere. If you make your holiday in the ski area in March, you can admire another original competition oe even take part in it: the nostalgic ski race. Consisting of the two categories of nostalgia and retro, this colorful event focuses on the originality of ski equipment and clothing. Not necessarily the speed or the technique, but rather the appearance of the skier. Guaranteed pleasure for both the participants and the spectators.
Saas-Grund is a very family-friendly ski resort. The Kinderland "Hohsi Snowland" is a real winter paradise for children. This 15,000 m2 site is located on the Kreuzoden, located at 2,400 meters above the sea level. It can be reached on foot, by gondola and thanks to the extra-long magic carpet "Sunkid". In the park there are teepees with Indian totems, seesaws and various equipment for playing and learning how to ski. Caregivers support beginners on the different, specially designed for their needs course.
In the Hohsi Snowland there are also swings, a rope lift and a hut for well-deserved rest after ski lessons and a heated lounge with play areas. The Kreuzboden mountain restaurant overlooking the Kinderland allows parents to watch the progress of their little novice skiers. In January the "Kidsweek" takes place in Saas-Grund. The program includes several free offers for children: ski equipment, ski pass, ski lessons and a children's menu in the restaurant.
