A small ski area with numerous attractions

With its small size, the Saas-Almagell ski area is, so to speak, the small Däumling next to Saas-Fee / Saastal or Zermatt, the Swiss ski metropolis just 15 km away. But Saas-Almagell has two interesting advantages: best sunshine due to its southern orientation and the accommodations are close to the pistes. The presence of the neighboring peaks and glaciers ensures an optimal snow level throughout the season. In addition, a network of snowmaking systems can provide snow for the entire runway network. Saas-Almagell in three words: sunny, close to the pistes and guaranteed snow.

In addition to alpine skiing, Saas-Almagell offers a variety of other winter sports: tobogganing, snow tubing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating and curling. The cross-country ski route leads from the Eiu Alp to Saas-Balen. Saas-Almagell also has 14km of winter hiking routes, a 3km sledge piste, some other routes and a natural ice rink. The sledge piste is quite light and well suited for children. It crosses larch forests and is partially illuminated in the evening. Once a week, torchlight runs take place. Organized by the ski school, they take place at the Furggstalden.

A typical mountain village in idyllic nature

Located in the Swiss canton of Valais, the town of Saas-Almagell still radiates authenticity. With its old Valais wheat barns, black-brown chalets, quiet streets and idyllic beauty in a wild and well-preserved nature, Saas-Almagell embodies the typical charm of the Valais Alps. Around Saas-Fee numerous irresistible hiking routes await the guests. The main attraction of Saas-Almagell is the Mattmarksee at 2200 m altitude. Accessible by car or bus, the area is home to one of the largest reservoirs in Switzerland. A well-maintained route leads around the more than 37 km2 reservoir. On site, you can also visit the pumping station Zermeiggern. A mountain restaurant invites you to relax and enjoy the best regional and international specialties.

A visit to the Furggstalden Weiler is indispensable. A two-seater chairlift takes you to this sunny terrace at 1900 m altitude. There are still in original form the oldest houses of the Valais. A small pleasant journey into the past, where you can also discover the ancient smuggler routes to Italy.

An ideal family-holiday destination

As a family-friendly ski area with the label "Families Welcome", Saas-Almagell has many amenities especially for families. For the children there is a free skiing area in the middle of the village: the Kian Abenteuerland (4000m2). In a sunny location, this children's land with fantastic and endearing characters, such as dragons, lions, penguins, and many different activities for children. Once a week, the program "Fun 4 Kids" lures with crafts, tobogganing, building snowmen and snow tubing. There are snow tunnels, humps and waves on the various small pistes. Children use the special children's lift Pinocchio.

Many other activities are also available to children: fairy tale lessons, movie nights, slalom, igloo, tobogganing and disco. A nursery takes care of the little ones under 9 year olds. But in Saas-Almagell you learn to ski like the world champions. Under the guidance of experienced and patient ski instructors, the kids learn how to ski in the footsteps of World Champions Pirmin, Heidi and Silvan Zurbriggen. All three made their first runs on the pistes of Furggstalden-Heidbodme in Saas-Almagell.
