Beautiful winter hikes

Leukerbad offers various attractions to all its guests. The unique winter landscape of the Gemmi is crossed by a cross-country network of more than 30 km. There are also numerous snowshoe routes in Leukerbad. In addition, there are still 40 km of winter hiking routess available for long walks and hikes through the flawless fairytale snowy nature. Also open in winter, the Gemmi Pass is especially popular with hikers. Its 10 km winding pistes at 2314 m altitude between Leukerbad and Kandersteg are particularly fascinating.

These paths take you on a journey through time. Follow to get the routes of the Romans, who used to follow these paths in antiquity to reach the Valais, or famous personalities such as Marc Twain, Goethe, Lenin and Picasso, who were guests here. From the Gemmi Pass, you have a wonderful view over the Valais Alps, the Rhone Valley, the village of Leukerbad, the Mischabel Group, Mont Rose, Weisshorn, Matterhorn, Dent Blanche, Wildstrubel and the Lämmerernboden. Winter hiking fans can also go on various routes that run through the majestic alpine country around Leukerbad. A total of 40 km of routes through forests and over the surrounding meadows are available to them.

Leukerbad carries the tourism award "Families Welcome" and offers many advantages especially for beginners and children. In the Snowpark Sportarena children can have fun in the snow. Located in the heart of Leukerbad, this park is an area for children. In Leukerbad, the little ones are the focus. The ski school organizes a torch-lit celebration, as well as weekly races where young talented skiers can prove their skills. Children under the age of 8 enjoy free admission to all thermal baths as well as Sportarena sports center. The sports complex is versatile and specially designed for children: two conveyor belts and special drag lifts suitable for children and beginners.

Right next to the sports arena, Erli Park offers a wide piste and ski lifts especially for beginners. There you will also find the snow tubing piste. In this specially reserved area, children can learn to ski under the guidance of experienced ski instructors. Two toboggan runs are also available for amusing downhill runs with the whole family: Gemmiwind (1.5km) and Gemmiblitz (1km). For the tireless ones, a 150-meter sled run is also open in the evening, as is the snow-tubing run in Erli Park. The sports arena also offers skating, curling and hockey ice rinks, as well as a climbing wall, tennis court, squash court, sports hall and fitness equipment.

Only 2 hours by car from Geneva and 3 hours from Zurich, the ski resort Leukerbad is very easy to reach. If you want to travel by train, you can take fast and comfortable trains from Geneva or Zurich to Leuk, the nearest train station in Leukerbad.
