Château d'Oex belongs to the Gstaad Mountain Rides region, one of the largest winter sports destinations in the Bernese Oberland. Good skiers will find two exciting and noteworthy pistes in Château d'Oex: La Noire and Bois Cheneau.

Is cross-country skiing your passion? In Château d'Oex, there is an interesting network of routes through the pastures and through the forests of the Pays-d'Enhaut valley and on the plateau of Les Mosses. At Praz-Perron, above Château d'Oex, you can also go cross-country skiing in the evening on a 1.5km long route. Relatively low, between 958m and 1630m, the Château d'Oex ski area benefits from good snow conditions thanks to the northern location of its ski pistes.

Wide range of winter sports

Château d'Oex offers a variety of winter sports activities, such as snowshoeing, sleigh rides and winter hikes. Other ski-less activities such as ice skating, swimming in the indoor pool or bowling complete the winter sports offer. Château d'Oex also has something very special for skiers: skijoring in the heart of the Alps. A horse with a rider attracts skiers in this fascinating combination of skiing and equestrian sports. At the end of the route, the skiers will enjoy a regional culinary highlight. In a heated teepee, you can taste the specialties of the region, such as the delicious L'Etivaz cheese. Those who love challenges can try out a chronometer at the slalom track in Château d'Oex. Reservation necessary.

Over a total length of 56 km, several snowshoe routes run through the region around Château d'Oex. These prepared and secured routes are located at different heights and traverse picturesque areas. Two of these routes feature reflective markings, allowing you to take a night-time stroll through the intact countryside around Château d'Oex, Rougemont and Les Mosses. One of the most interesting routes leads along a marked route along the Saane, through snow-covered forests and past small, frozen watercourses. A quiet, seemingly fairytale-like world full of variety opens up to the beholder of this fascinating, beautiful nature.

Winter sports for the whole family

For snow adventures with the family, Château d'Oex offers a 4 km long toboggan run. After starting on La Braye (1630m), the route leads down to the middle station Praz-Perron (1200m). The piste overcomes a height difference of 430 m. Sledges can be rented on site. Gastronomy at the start and finish. The toboggan run is accessible by gondola and chairlift.

For snowboarders, there is the Highland Park - Snowpark at the top of the ski area, at the top of La Braye. Here snowboarders and freestyle find different elements: jibs, kickers, wood-zone and a big air bag. There is also a chillout zone with music and loungers for snow park users. The Highland Park of Château d'Oex is considered one of the best snow parks in French Switzerland. The park is designed according to the standards of "Smart & Style", a worldwide reference for safety and the distribution of different levels of difficulty for snow parks.

Hot air balloon Paradise

Château d'Oex is world famous for hosting the annual hot air balloon meeting. Thanks to its exceptional microclimate, the valley of Château d'Oex offers ideal conditions for hot air balloon flights. At the end of January, the International Balloon Festival will bring together one hundred pilots from different countries for a week in a colorful spectacle. Also visitors are allowed to fly hot air balloons. Experienced pilots take you on an adventure in the sky above the Pays d'Enhaut.

The Balloon Museum of Château d'Oex describes the history of the balloon ride. History lovers will also find exhibitions on the various technical aspects, from Jules Verne to the adventures of Piccard and Jones. Located in the center of the village, in a renovated historical building, the museum consists of several areas: a service area, an exhibition area and a 3D projection screen with various presentations of the worldwide balloon ride.
