Pontresina is a charming winter sports destination in the Engadin St. Moritz region in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by imposing mountains with a view of the Piz Bernina (4049m), Pontresina is located on a sunny southwest terrace. Thanks to its elevated position (between 1896 and 2978 m), Pontresina benefits from lush natural snow. In the upper layers of the Diavolezza you can ski as of October. The winter season usually lasts until May.

Cross-country skiing, ice climbing and snowkiting

Due to its location near the famous ski marathon route, Pontresina offers optimal access to the 220 km of cross-country ski routes that are available in the Engadin St. Moritz ski resort as a whole. Numerous cross-country routes, for classic and skating, as a loop or linear route start from Pontresina towards the other ski resorts in the Engadine, such as Val Roseg, St. Moritz, Zuoz and Silvaplana. A cross-country ski center offers cross-country skiers many amenities: showers, toilets, lockers and a large waxing room. Pontresina has a cross-country ski school offering courses for beginners to advanced.

Thanks to the high peaks that surround it, Pontresina is a very popular destination for climbing fans. Every year in February, this charming ski resort hosts the Ice Climbing Festival, where the best ice climbers in the world meet. The imposing ice walls of the "Corn da Diavolezza" and the gorges of Pontresina are popular climbers' stages. In Pontresina snowkite, fans can practice their favorite sport on the frozen "Lago Bianco". Freeriders have access to large powder covered areas on the Diavolezza and Lagalb. Ice skating, curling and ice hockey on natural areas are other winter sports activities awaiting you in Pontresina.

Pontresina is a haven of peace in a romantic and wild nature at the gates of the Swiss National Park. The routes that run around the ski resort offer views of the lakes of the Upper Engadin and the Piz Bernina. The Morteratsch circuit offers a 13 km hike through the enchanting landscapes that surround Pontresina. The trail, which leads from Muottas Muragl to Languard, crosses the territory of the largest capricorn colony in Switzerland. A horse-drawn sleigh ride through the Rosegtal promises magnificent Alpine panoramas as far as the eye can see.

But there is not only winter sports in Pontresina. The resort also offers a range of non-ski activities to entertain visitors. The water park and spa "Bellavita" offers winter holidays to its spa area, its 25 m swimming pool, sauna and steam room as well as relaxation rooms. The modern facilities inside and out, include a 75 m long slide with "black hole" and a water playground for children. Concerts or theater evenings at the Pontresina Culture and Congress Center, or a dinner at one of the many Gault-Millau award-winning restaurants complete the après-ski program.
