Cross-country skiing, off-piste and winter hikes
Arosa offers many possibilities for cross-country skiers: 30 km of well-groomed routes in Maran, Prätschalp / Ochsalp (panoramic trail), in the Isel and on the Obersee, when the ice cover is thick enough. On the shores of the Obersee is a cross-country skiing center. Classic cross-country skiing can be practiced throughout the area. For skating fans there are 13 km of routes available. If you like long runs even after dark, you can do so on a 4 km long, illuminated route. Cross-country skiers can also bring their dogs on the route along the Obersee (Obersee trail). In the Arosa ski area there are also several options for off-piste skiing between the groomed pistes. More deep snow runs are possible in the west of the ski area on 4 marked routes.
Numerous well-groomed winter routes, through the beautiful mountain and forest landscape, are available to hikers. For example, there is a route that leads from the Weisshorn to Arosa, over the Rot Tritt. The Weisshorn with its 2653 m is the highest point of the Arosa-Lenzerheide ski area. From its observation deck, a spectacular panorama opens up over 400 Swiss, Italian and Austrian peaks. In addition, you have a unique view of the countryside and places in the immediate area to Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Grisons. A real eye-catcher: on one side the Silvretta massif, on the other the summits of Surselva.
Along this route numerous benches invite you to linger and relax. Enjoy the sun and let the fairy tale-like surroundings take over. Another hiking route leads from Chur to Arosa via Langwies. This route takes you on a discovery tour of the beautiful snowy landscapes. Guided snowshoe hikes are offered every Tuesday.
A family friendly ski area
The ski area of Arosa offers wide pistes with open curves and some steep pistes. The pistes are therefore particularly suitable for beginners and medium-good skiers. For children there are special animation programs in the ski area. Located in Innerarosa, near the ski school, the Arosa Junior Club is a real paradise for children. From the age of 3, you can learn skiing or snowboarding here in a playful atmosphere. In the 22,000m2 Arosa Junior Club, the little ones meet numerous figures that entertain them. The children's park has a magic carpet and a beginner's lift (Pinocchio). Skiers can also find a practice area and a heated playroom. The Arosa Junior Club also allows children to take part in specially-organized races. On five evenings a week, the children can take part in a fairytale evening in a gondola of the Weisshorn gondola lift. They are accompanied by Flexx, the puppet of the children's club.
Although it is not completely car-free, Arosa-Lenzerheide still promises pure Alpine air in a quiet and cozy setting. Thanks to its secluded location, no major transit road leads to Arosa, which greatly reduces traffic. You can also do without your car to fully benefit from the pure air and tranquility of this versatile charming area. A special pass for lifts and public transport links the different places in the region: Arosa, Chur, Lenzerheide, Tiefencastel.
