logo

Situated on an open and very sunny plateau above the Rhone Valley, Riederalp is one of the three winter sports destinations in the Aletsch Arena together with Bettmeralp and Fiesch. Riederalp is a medium-sized ski resort with a gondola lift, two chairlifts and several ski lifts. With its chalets, larch wood blackened by the sun and its picturesque streets, Riederalp is a typical and authentic Valais mountain village. In addition to its 23 well-groomed ski pistes, Riederalp offers its visitors a landscape of exceptional beauty, stretching from Goms (in the Conches valley) to the Rhone Valley. Riederalp has mainly blue (easy) and red (middle) pistes. Thus, it is an excellent destination for beginner and intermediate skiers. In addition, there is a racetrack with chronometer on the Riederalp.

Together with Bettmeralp and Fiesch, Riederalp forms the large ski area Aletsch Arena. The pure alpine air, the lush sunshine (at least 300 days a year) and a spectacular panorama over the highest peaks in the Alps make Riederalp a popular winter holiday destination for skiers as well as hikers. Located at an altitude of 1925 m, Riederalp is a car-free ski resort accessible by cable car from the village of Mörel. A large parking lot at the valley station of the gondola in Mörel offers space for the vehicles of the visitors of the Aletsch Arena.

Winter hikes in idyllic nature

The Aletsch Arena ski area offers winter hiking fans 72 km of marked routes through different landscapes. The path along the Moosfluhgrat towards Riederfurka over the Aletsch glacier is one of the most beautiful high-altitude hiking routes in the Alps. Riederalp is also the starting point of the Panoramaweg, which leads via Bettmeralp to Fiescheralp. This hike over flat terrain is one of the most beautiful of the Aletsch Arena. The trip also includes a cable car ride up to the Eggishorn at 2869 m altitude. From there, a unique view opens onto the Aletsch Glacier, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and numerous Alpine giants: Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, Wannenhorn and Finsteraahorn.

The nature around the ski resort Riederalp is of breathtaking beauty. Nature lovers will be amazed by the fascinating biodiversity of the forest on the edge of the Aletsch Glacier. What was once covered by the Aletsch Glacier has developed over millennia to this 410-hectare forest, which contains exceptional tree and rare species. Numerous hiking routes cross this natural habitat with its unique charm. Since 1933, this area has been protected by Pro Natura, a nature conservation center housed in Villa Cassel on Riederfurka.

Nothing is better to explore the fascinating surroundings of Riederalp than a walk around the Blausee. Accessible via the Riederalp-Moosfluh gondola lift, this mountain lake is situated on an altitude of 2207 meters in a magnificent Alpine panorama and offers the best view of several four-thousand-meter peaks: the legendary Matterhorn, the cathedral and the Weisshorn.

Family-friendly ski resort of the Aletsch Arena

Riederalp is rightly called the most family-friendly ski resort in the Aletsch Arena region. Children and their parents are treated as guests of honor and they receive special attention throughout their stay. The children's park Alpenrose offers children numerous attractions with very modern infrastructure and facilities. On the 3600 m2 large area, the children are playfully introduced to various winter sports. Located in the heart of the ski resort, this area is reserved for children and well accessible. In this idyllic setting, children can enjoy themselves, enjoy the snow and, above all, learn to ski under professional guidance.
