Winter hikes in idyllic nature
The Aletsch Arena ski area offers winter hiking fans 72 km of marked routes through different landscapes. The path along the Moosfluhgrat towards Riederfurka over the Aletsch glacier is one of the most beautiful high-altitude hiking routes in the Alps. Riederalp is also the starting point of the Panoramaweg, which leads via Bettmeralp to Fiescheralp. This hike over flat terrain is one of the most beautiful of the Aletsch Arena. The trip also includes a cable car ride up to the Eggishorn at 2869 m altitude. From there, a unique view opens onto the Aletsch Glacier, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and numerous Alpine giants: Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, Wannenhorn and Finsteraahorn.
The nature around the ski resort Riederalp is of breathtaking beauty. Nature lovers will be amazed by the fascinating biodiversity of the forest on the edge of the Aletsch Glacier. What was once covered by the Aletsch Glacier has developed over millennia to this 410-hectare forest, which contains exceptional tree and rare species. Numerous hiking routes cross this natural habitat with its unique charm. Since 1933, this area has been protected by Pro Natura, a nature conservation center housed in Villa Cassel on Riederfurka.
Nothing is better to explore the fascinating surroundings of Riederalp than a walk around the Blausee. Accessible via the Riederalp-Moosfluh gondola lift, this mountain lake is situated on an altitude of 2207 meters in a magnificent Alpine panorama and offers the best view of several four-thousand-meter peaks: the legendary Matterhorn, the cathedral and the Weisshorn.
