The car-free ski area of Bettmeralp in the heart of the Conches Valley in the Swiss canton of Valais offers pure Alpine air and authentic mountain ambience. Bettmeralp, Fiescheralp and Riederalp together form the large ski area Aletsch Arena. Together, the "Three Alps" offer 104 km of pistes, several winter hiking routes spread over 72 kilometers and a small but fascinating cross-country skiing area of 4 km.

Bettmeralp, Fiescheralp and Riederalp are traditional and authentic mountain villages. They are car-free and form the access points to the great Alteschglacier, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its extraordinary beauty. Due to its southern location, Bettmeralp benefits from at least 300 sunny days a year. In addition, since the majority of the pistes are above the tree limits, the snow conditions do not suffer from the lush sunshine. The snow conditions in Bettmeralp are so good that in March there is still more than 1 m of snow on the rooftops and the streets. That's why the ski season in Bettmeralp is relatively long: from December to April.

Ski area for beginners and a dream piste for advanced skiers

Of the 21 ski pistes in the ski area, 20 are marked as blue (light) and red (medium), making Bettmeralp a ski area for beginners and advanced skiers. Advanced skiers have an excellent piste, the Aletsch. With 6.5 km and a difference in altitude of 697m, it is the longest piste of the "Three Alps" ski area and one of the most beautiful runs in the Valais region. The piste runs on a large sunny corridor between Bettmerhorn and Riederalp, against the background of the imposing Alpine peaks around the Aletschhorn (4193m). The Aletschpiste is a real treat for ski professionals. Bettmeralp also has a racetrack. In addition to alpine skiing Bettmeralp also offers many other activities: snowboarding, ski tours, ski tours, snowshoeing.

Off-piste fans enjoy a marked area at the exit of the 200m long tunnel below the Bettmerhorn. When it's snowing, this area will be particularly exciting. A great long and steep downhill run promises off-piste fans a sense of freedom without equal. From the off-piste area, which can be reached with a gondola lift for 8 people, a wonderful panoramic view of the Matterhorn and the Aletsch Glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, opens up. Cross-country skiers have a 4 km long track in Bettmeralp, of which one kilometer is prepared for skating and leads through the magnificent pine and larch forest.

Winter hikes in intact nature

One of the most notable advantages of Bettmeralp is its natural environment. The ski area is surrounded by mountain lakes and forests, where there are centuries-old trees and a rich wildlife. Even from the center, the panorama is magnificent. The view spreads over the surrounding mountains to the Matterhorn (4478m) and the Mischabel group, crowned by the famous cathedral (4545m). On the summit of the Bettmerhorn (2660m), a breathtaking view over the Valais Alps and the Aletsch glacier awaits visitors. Friends of winter hikes will be delighted by the numerous hiking routes that run through this unique landscape: routes across the Aletsch Glacier, the Aletsch Forest, the Bettmerhorn, the UNESCO route from Bettmerhorn to Eggishorn or from Bettmerhorn to Kühboden. There are also several routes available for snowshoeing, including the well-known Bettmeralp-Fiescheralp-Moränenweg.

Accessible by foot via hiking trails or by ski, Bettmersee is only 5 minutes above the village center. The cross-country ski piste of Bettmeralp surrounds the majestic Bettmersee, which lies in a magical landscape and offers a magnificent view of the highest alpine peaks: the Matterhorn and the Mischabel. Bettmeralp is a car-free village whose roads are always covered with a thick layer of snow in winter. Cross-country skiers can therefore ski down from their accommodation to the routes and back.

Families in focus

Bettmeralp is an ideal family holiday destination. As a sponsor of the Swiss Tourism Quality Seal "Families Welcome", children are offered various entertainment programs and enticing winter holiday activities. There is also a ski rental in Bettmeralp especially for children's ski articles. In the village there are also extra-wide hiking routes for trips with the stroller. Bettmeralp has a fun park with snowpark (halfpipe, kickers, rails, ....). Freestyle beginners can enjoy themselves with the Family Park at woops, banks, mini-kickers and a boardercross course.
